Level Up Your Power Up Like A Boss

Around this time of year, your Team Power Up (or Daily Huddle) might begin feeling stale. We start the new year off strong, and as time goes on, energy wanes. This is the time when your role as Director of Operations (or Ops Boss®) is to be the Captain of Consistency on the ship and keep everyone moving toward the goal. But how do you do that?

One way idea is to have themes based on what day of the week it is. Whether you are personally leading Power Up, or whether your team participates in leading, everyone appreciates variety. Before we give you some ideas for that, we’ll remind you to:

Use the 5 Steps To Building Systems  we teach in “Systems Are Sexy”!
  1. Purpose: Why are you doing Power Ups in the first place? There could be many reasons, but ultiately which is primary. (Examples: Camaraderie, education, team building, culture, skills, focus). Once you know the purpose, you can build a Power Up System that matches your purpose.
  2. Vision Outcome: State how you will know you have “won”. (Example: The team is excited to come to Power Up every day and people rarely miss attending.)
  3. Brainstorm: Now you can brainstorm ideas for your Power Up. Quantity over quality. We will list some below. You can also post in our Be A Boss Facebook Group and collaborate with others. And don’t forget to ask your team!
  4. Organize: Decide which things you will implement now, which things you’ll implement later, and which things you’ll toss.
  5. Next Steps: List the next steps to implement your new system, who owns what, and when will they happen.

NOW you can build a great Power Up System! When you get to Step 3 (Brainstorm), you can come back and look at:

11 Ideas For Daily Power Ups
  1. Market Monday – We are now in a skills market, and we are noticing many agents new to the business in the past decade do not know how to pull market stats. Everyone (including admin) should know how to do this AND should have that information top of mind. Your Power Up could include a weekly market update from a different team member each week. Include things like number of homes on the market, average days on market, average list to sales price, how many months of inventory. You can do this both locally and regionally/nationally.
  2. Mission Monday – Focus on your mission, vision, values & beliefs once a week. Say them together. Have a quick contest to see who can recite each one correctly and give a gift card to the winner. Share examples of how someone on the team LIVED the MVVB this week.
  3. Tuesday Tracking – Report team numbers weekly. This creates horizontal accountability versus top down accountability. You can include sales numbers (leads/calls/appointments/contracts/closings) AND operations numbers (review/referrals/database/marketing). Or just focus on ONE Thing.
  4. Training Tuesday – Set up a training schedule with a 15 minute training tip each Tuesday. (Example: The Transaction Coordinator can share things people are commonly missing in contracts)
  5. Tech Tuesday – Have people take turn sharing a tech tip (like how they are using ChatGPT).
  6. What’s Working Wednesday (or Winning Wednesday) – Share your wins from the past week.
  7. What We’re Reading Wednesday – Similar to the “Blinkist” app (or old school “Cliff Notes”), have someone on your team share a quick overview of the last book they read, what they learned and what they implemented. Or read a book together and share AHAs.
  8. Wacky Wednesday – Today’s market means we are seeing all sort of things that are “new”. Use Wacky Wednesday as a problem solving day. One of the benefits of being on a team is collective wisdom and collaboration.
  9. Thankful Thursday – Share gratitudes. Or have each person shout out someone on the team for something you appreciate about them this week,
  10. Thursday Thoughts – have someone different each week share their favorite quote and why it’s important to them.
  11. Fail Forward Friday – Have each person share where they failed forward this week. (It’s not a fail FORWARD without the learning that comes with it.)

Our next “Systems Are Sexy” class is Virtual on March 30-31. Hope to see you there! In the meantime, you’re now ready to level up your Power Up like a boss, an Ops Boss®!
